Resveratrol and HIV

Grapes contain resveratrol which are known to be effective against cancer. Resveratrol is found in the skins of grapes, grape juice, berries, and peanuts. Research has shown that resveratrol could increase cell survival and slow aging in mice, by activating a longevity gene known as Sirtl.

Resveratrol and HIV

Resveratrol blocks some of the cellular enzymes which HIV uses to reproduce. Grapes also contain the following which help to fight cancer.

Selenium
It is a mineral that protects cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. It is also known to fight cancer.

Lycopene
Found in red grapes and also in tomatoes. Lycopene is effective against prostate cancer. Food sources of lycopene are grapefruit, watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, carrots. Tomatoes are the best source of lycopene. HIV infected people are often deficient in lycopene.

Ellagic Acid
Raspberries are a rich source. Grapes also contain ellagic acid. Food sources of ellagic acid are, strawberries, pomegranate and red raspberry. Muscadine grapes have high levels of antioxidants, ellagic acid and resveratrol. Studies have shown that ellagic acid has some anti HIV activity.
